Los Altos School envisions the home, school, and community working together to ensure that all children receive equal access to standards based education that focuses on reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. We seek to provide all students with a solid primary educational foundation which will prepare all students to succeed in a challenging, diverse, and complex global society. We hold high expectations for student success. We seek to instill an appreciation for cultural sensitivity, a positive attitude toward self and others, and the responsibility for life long learning skills.

We believe:

All students can learn.

Students learn best when they are engaged in challenging and appropriate learning focused on the core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies integrated with physical education and the fine arts.

Quality teachers are the single greatest predictor of student success.

The diversity and uniqueness of each student should be respected.

Students learn best when families value education, and teach their children to accept increasing responsibility for their own learning.

Quality education improves the quality of life for students, their families, and the community now and in the future.

Dear Los Altos Families,

Welcome back to school! We are so excited to open up the 2014-2015 school year. Our teachers and support staff have been working diligently to prepare for the first day of school. Our teachers have been busy attending staff development to  become better acquainted with our new math program, Go Math! The new program aligns every lesson to the Common Core Standards. Students  are able to write in the book to record their strategies, explanations, solutions, practice, and test prep answers. The program promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills which will better prepare our students to be college ready. The CCSS and new programs promise to make for an exciting and productive year at Los Altos.

I believe a strong home-school connection ensures the best education possible.  As such, parents are always welcome and encouraged to volunteer, attend school events, assemblies, and to become an active member of PTA. We also encourage business partners to join us in our efforts to educate our leaders of the future. This summer, dvance America donated hundreds of dollars worth of materials to our classrooms. Thank you Advance America for supporting our students.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in becoming involved. I can be reached at (562) 941-3711 or you may email me at mayala@swhittier.k12.ca.us.
