Los Altos School envisions the home, school, and community working together to ensure that all children receive equal access to standards based education that focuses on reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. We seek to provide all students with a solid primary educational foundation which will prepare all students to succeed in a challenging, diverse, and complex global society. We hold high expectations for student success. We seek to instill an appreciation for cultural sensitivity, a positive attitude toward self and others, and the responsibility for life long learning skills.
We believe:
All students can learn.
Students learn best when they are engaged in challenging and appropriate learning focused on the core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies integrated with physical education and the fine arts.
Quality teachers are the single greatest predictor of student success.
The diversity and uniqueness of each student should be respected.
Students learn best when families value education, and teach their children to accept increasing responsibility for their own learning.
Quality education improves the quality of life for students, their families, and the community now and in the future.
Los Altos Elementary implements programs that help every child achieve academic success. We use district-adopted textbooks that are aligned to the California State Content Standards to ensure students are receiving high-quality instruction to maximize learning. Enrichment activities are provided for students who have mastered content and a variety of targeted intervention plans are provided for students who require additional support. Individual student needs are taken into consideration when planning and delivering grade-level instruction. We also address students’ social, behavioral, cultural and physical development to ensure a well balanced school program. We focus on the whole child to encourage lifelong learning and ongoing success.
We believe a strong home-school connection ensures the best education possible. Parents are welcome. We encourage parents to volunteer, visit classrooms, attend events and assemblies, join the Los Altos PTA, participate in parent education opportunities as they become available and become involved in other ways including serving on various school committees. We also encourage community and business partners to join us in our efforts to educate our young, capable leaders for the future. Our staff is very approachable and they eagerly address all questions and concerns. We aim to communicate effectively with families at all times. Parents make a difference at Los Altos!
